Bird Flu Detected In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: The Cuttack district administration on Sunday culled more than 400 ducks and chickens after detection of the H5N1 virus (bird flu).

It is said that Officers had collected samples from the farm which tested positive for the H5N1 virus following which 431 ducks and 56 chickens were culled.

The culling of fowls was also carried out within one KM radius of the farm as the outbreak of bird flu caused panic among the locals. More than 10,000 eggs and 3.5 quintals of bird food were also destroyed.

A team led by Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) Lokanath Behera, took stock of the situation in the areas and advised the locals to avoid taking eggs and poultry animals for the next three months.

The Food Safety Department also has put up notices in the area banning the sale of poultry and its products.
