Bhubaneswar: Commissioner of Odisha Police Satyajit Mohanty categorised the Khordha minor girl’s rape as a red flag case, today.

Terming it as a heinous crime, the CP said that DNA specialist was sent a requisition for DNA profiling of the victim. Officials of the District Forensic Laboratory have also collected samples and evidences from the crime scene.

“We are going to expedite the investigation for this case. We shall appeal for maximum possible sentence for the accused. An additional DCP is overseeing the probe and additional CP has also been asked to monitor the proceedings,” he told mediapersons in a briefing.

Worth mentioning, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a neighbour in Gopabandhu Nagar under Jatni Police limits of Khurda district two days ago. Irate locals nabbed the accused youth soon after the incident and thrashed him black and blue injuring him severely.

They also staged a protest in front of the Jatni police station yesterday and blocked the road blockade by burning tyres demanding strong action against the culprit.

Notably, red flag cases are defined as the incidents of inhumane crimes against a woman that are dealt with utmost priority by the police.
