Want Speaker to Take Over as Acting President

Colombo: Thousands of protesters gathered outside Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s residence in Colombo. News channels shared footage of protesters scaling the walls of the residence of Ranil Wickremesinghe, who took over as the acting President. Ranil Wickremesinghe declared a state of emergency as protests continued across the country. 

This comes after  Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives. The Sri Lankan Police on Thursday used tear gas to disperse a group of protesters near the Prime Minister’s Office at Flower Road in state capital Colombo.

It is said, leaders at all-party meet ask PM to step down, want Speaker to take over as acting President. Sri Lanka’s Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva requests all citizens to give their support to armed forces & police to maintain the law & order in the country. 
 

Again, Sri Lankans residing in the Maldives began protests against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the country. The protesters were seen with the Sri Lankan national flag and placards demanding Gotabaya Rajapaksa be sent back to Sri Lanka.
