Tractors Caravan Near Delhi Borders

Farmer organisations spoke of “history in the making” as an unending caravan of tractors lined up on roads leading from four states to the Delhi borders on Monday embarked on the last lap of their journey to the final frontier of their Republic Day protest against the three new farm laws.

By late evening, thousands of tractors and other vehicles ferrying farmers from different parts of western UP had already descended on the state’s borders with the national capital. Tractors from different villages in Baghpat took the Eastern Peripheral Expressway to reach Delhi. Around noon, Naresh Tikait, national president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), landed in Baghpat from Muzaffarnagar in a convoy of 250 tractors.

“We have been called everything from Pakistanis to Khalistanis, but see the kind of discipline exhibited by the farmers from various states. We have not been aggressive... We only want the government to revoke the three farm laws. We have great respect for Republic Day. Every year, we celebrate this day as a national festival in our villages. Tomorrow, we will do it in Delhi,” Tikait said.
